Bell Garden Courtyard began as a place imagined for real celebrations: private, green, flexible, and beautiful enough for the kind of day a bride keeps picturing long before the first guest arrives.

Christina’s vision

A garden made for the details people remember.

The story of Bell Garden Courtyard is personal before it is practical. Christina’s eye for a bride’s day shaped a venue where the ceremony, meal, photos, movement, shade, food service, and evening atmosphere all belong to one private outdoor setting.

Today, the same courtyard hosts weddings, receptions, family parties, birthdays, cultural celebrations, filming, and community gatherings in the restored historic Bell Telephone setting.

From Bell Telephone to Bell Garden

A historic place, reimagined for gatherings.

1914

Local calls were already being routed from a New Toronto drug store switchboard.

1923

Bell acquired land at Sixth Street and Birmingham for a modern central telephone office.

1926

The Birmingham Street Bell Telephone building was completed, giving the site its historic foundation.

1929

Fifty-two staff handled about 13,000 calls a day across nearby lakeshore communities.

1948 / 1950

Two additions expanded the building before Bell continued operating here until 1981.

2008

The building was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.

2026

Bell Garden marks 150 years since the first telephone call, 100 years since the building was constructed, and 35 years since Christina rescued and restored it.

Today

The courtyard carries that history into weddings, kids parties, cultural events, filming, and open-air celebrations.

The dream also had to work beautifully.

Bell Garden Courtyard is not just a pretty outdoor space. The layout supports the flow of real events: guest arrival, garden photos, tented seating, lawn games, food stations, service access, indoor washrooms, and kitchen access all within a fully fenced 9,500 sq. ft. venue.
